A kids school is the foundation on which a safe, skilled rider is built. is not just turning pedals – it is a dance with physics, balance and confidence. In a sea of improvised sessions, Evolution offers the only structured, methodical approach to developing young riders in East Sarajevo. From little ones who are just losing their training wheels to future champions on DH trails, our system shapes complete athletes through proper kids bike lessons.

Kids Cycling School: Why Systematic Training Matters

Many parents think it is enough for a child to "get tired" riding around the park. That is a mistake. Without correct technique, fatigue only leads to bad habits and a drop in concentration.

Our professional kids cycling school uses a program adapted to age and motor skills:

  • Beginners (Foundation): Learning balance, proper starting and stopping, and getting rid of the fear of riding.
  • Advanced (Technique): Clearing obstacles, using the brakes correctly, and body position ("Attack position"), as covered in our attack position and braking technique lesson.
  • Racers (Performance): Racing lines, speed, jumps and mental preparation.

Fear Is Not Beaten With Fitness

"I often see the mistake of kids being pushed down a hill with the slogan 'just be brave'. That is wrong. Fear of descending is not overcome with fitness, intervals or blind courage, but only through planned work on technique. When a child knows how the bike reacts, fear disappears and control takes its place. That is the essence of our work at Evolution."

The Results Speak: Katarina (10 Years Old) on the Katera Trail

Theory is one thing, practice is something else entirely. The best proof of our methodology is Katarina. At just 10 years old, she does not only ride on flat ground – she dominates the Katera Trail Downhill trail.

This is not luck. It is the result of months of work on the training course, balance exercises and the gradual introduction of new elements. Watch what it looks like when technique beats fear:

Note: The video shows Katarina on the Katera Trail. For the full experience of the trail, see the detailed description of the Katera trail here.

In Action: Our U12 Riders

Pictures say more than words. See how our youngest members (up to 12 years old) handle airtime. These jumps are not "throwing yourself down the hill" – they are controlled flight, the result of a mastered Bunny Hop, proper pumping and the "Attack" position.

💡 TIP FOR PARENTS

Do not buy your child a bike that is too big "to grow into". An oversized bike makes proper handling impossible and creates insecurity. If you are not sure about the right size or geometry, come to one of our training sessions – consultations are free.

Frequently Asked Questions from Parents

How to Prepare Your Child for the First Training

Good preparation calms the child and shortens the settling-in period. Here is what we recommend before the first visit.

  • A helmet that fits. It must be properly fastened and positioned, not too high and not tilted back.
  • Gloves and knee and elbow pads. The first falls are normal, and protection makes them painless.
  • A bike of the right size. Your child must be able to reach the ground with their feet and stand safely. To choose a bike, use our guide on how to choose a kids bike.
  • Working brakes and tires. Before you come, check the tire pressure and how the brakes work, or let a bike service inspect them.
  • Comfortable clothing and water. Kids tire and sweat quickly, so bring water and a snack.

How Parents Can Help

The most important thing is for your child to be relaxed. Praise effort, not just results, and do not compare them with other children. Fear is beaten in small steps, so let the coach set the pace of progress. At home you can practice balance and braking on flat, safe ground. A kids cycling school works best when training sessions and practice at home complement each other.

What is the minimum age to join the cycling school?

The recommended minimum age is 4 years for work on the training course. For children who do not yet ride on their own, we offer a dedicated program for learning to ride without training wheels.

Does my child need their own bike and gear?

Yes, the club does not provide bikes. Your child must have their own technically sound bike and a protective helmet, which is absolutely mandatory.

How safe is this sport for children?

Safety is our number one priority. Our kids cycling school runs sessions in controlled conditions in the Bike Park, and elements are mastered gradually. Children never go onto trails that the coach judges they are not ready for.

Where and when do the trainings take place?

Our base is Bike Park Evolution at Ilinjača (East Sarajevo). Training takes place on weekends and on weekdays in the afternoon slots, depending on weather conditions.
