Supported Shimano STEPS systems

We run Shimano STEPS diagnostics on E8000, E7000, EP8 and EP801 drive units, together with the displays, switches and batteries from the same system. Call us before you come in so we can confirm the exact model and model year.

Systems

Error codes

What the codes shown on the drive unit's display mean is explained in our guide to Shimano error codes.

02

Components we check

The software detects and checks every component in the system: the drive unit (DU), battery (BT), display (SC), switch (SW) and, where fitted, the EW-EN100 wireless unit. This way we verify communication between the components as a whole.

03

Hardware connection: SM-PCE02

The bike is connected by cable to a computer through the Shimano PC Linkage device SM-PCE02 and the E-TUBE PROJECT Professional software. Full e-bike diagnostics and component updates are done with this professional tool, while smartphone apps offer only some of those features.

04

Error log and battery test

We read the complete error history (error log), because an error that has disappeared often stays stored in memory. We also check battery condition and the number of charge cycles, so you spot ageing in time.

05

Firmware and assist tuning

We update the firmware of the drive unit, battery, display and other components to the latest available version. We also tune the assist: Eco, Trail and Boost levels and the Dynamic, Explorer and Custom profiles, including maximum torque and Assist Start, where the drive unit supports it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Shimano STEPS diagnostics

What is Shimano STEPS diagnostics?

Shimano STEPS diagnostics is a check of the drive unit, battery, display and switches using Shimano E-TUBE Professional software. It reads errors, updates firmware and tunes the assist.

How much does Shimano STEPS diagnostics cost?

Shimano STEPS diagnostics costs 50 KM and includes a detailed diagnostic report. Di2 shifter diagnostics costs the same. Parts and mechanical work are charged separately.

Can I do the diagnostics myself?

Basic checks and settings can be done with smartphone apps. Full diagnostics, including component updates and advanced settings, are done by the workshop with professional tools (E-TUBE Professional and SM-PCE02).

How often should diagnostics be done?

At least once a year, ideally before the season. Have it done more often if you ride in demanding conditions, after a crash or impact, when an error appears on the display, and when you notice a loss of power.

Does E-TUBE Professional work with Di2 shifters too?

Yes. Diagnostics, firmware updates for Di2 components and setup of the Multi-Shift and Synchro Shift functions are all done with the same software, E-TUBE Professional.

Does servicing with you affect my e-bike's warranty?

The report documents the condition and regular maintenance of your bike. Warranty terms are set by the manufacturer and the bike seller, so check with them for your specific case.

Do I need to book a slot?

We recommend it. You can book by phone (+387 66 902 418), Viber, WhatsApp or through the booking form.
