About the area
Bjelašnica MTB: the Olympic mountain and the Rakitnica canyon
Bjelašnica MTB offers high-altitude rides for well-prepared riders. Both routes start in Babin Do and lead through the villages of Umoljani and Lukomir, along the Rakitnica canyon and past Blatac lake.
The routes are part of the Trails of the Olympic Mountains series. Choose by distance: 49 km is a loop via Umoljani and Sinanovići to Hojta, and 54.8 km is a loop via Lukomir and Blatac.
Both routes are technically undemanding (L2) but physically serious (L3). Water sources are rare: on the Hojta route there are Vrelo Stublo and Fatma's fountain, and on the Lukomir route you should carry at least 1.8 l. Signal is unreliable and absent near Lukomir, so a GPS is a must.
You can compare the routes with other trails on the MTB routes in BiH page, and the guide to the regions is on the MTB Bosnia page.

How to read the ITRS route difficulty
We rate all MTB routes in Bosnia and Herzegovina on this page using ITRS 5.2 across four dimensions, instead of a single difficulty label. That way you can see whether a route is hard technically, physically, because of distance from help, or because of exposure.

How much technical skill the terrain, rocks, roots and descents demand.
Fitness and logistics
Distance, climbing and ride duration, plus the food, water and gear you need to carry.
