You bring the bike to the workshop. Together we go through the problem you reported, and we note the condition of the bike before anything is touched.
Drop-off at the workshop
03
Cable and housing inspection
The mechanic checks for friction, corrosion and damage on the brake and gear cable and housing. Together we decide what gets replaced: only the shifting, only the brakes, or both systems.
Estimate before work
Why does the labor price vary from 10 to 40 KM?
The labor price depends on what is being replaced: brake cables and housing, gear cables and housing, or both systems, and how many of them your bike has. Materials are charged separately. You get the exact price after the inspection, before any work begins.
04
Choosing cables and housing
Cables and housing are chosen to match the brakes and shifters on your bike. Brake and gear housing are not interchangeable, so they are never mixed. Read more in our guide to cables and housing.
The right type for each system
Cable and housing go as a pair
A new cable in old housing keeps the friction and dirt of the old system, so we recommend replacing them together.
05
Replacement and adjustment
The new cables and housing are installed, and the housing is cut to the right length. Then we adjust the shifting and the brakes. We work with Park Tool tools, and any change to what we agreed goes through you first.

Final check and pick-up
Before handing the bike back, we check the shifting through all gears and the braking. When the bike is ready, we let you know, and you pick it up with an explanation of what was done.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How much does bike cable replacement cost?
Labor for cable and housing replacement costs 10 to 40 KM, and materials (cables and housing) are charged separately. The labor price depends on whether brake, gear or both systems are being replaced. You get the exact price after the inspection, before any work begins.
How do I know it's time to replace cables and housing?
The most common signs are a stiff brake lever, hesitant shifting and visible damage, such as corrosion on the cable or cracked outer housing. Cables age with time, not just with the kilometers you ride.
Can an old cable just be lubricated?
That is only a temporary fix. Oil can damage the inner liner of modern housing and attract dust, so new cables and housing are the better option.
Are cables and housing replaced together?
We recommend replacing them together, because a new cable in old housing keeps the friction of the old system. Brake and gear housing are not interchangeable, so the correct type is installed for each system.
Do hydraulic brakes have cables?
No. Hydraulic brakes use a hose filled with brake fluid, so they aren't replaced like cables. There is a separate service for them: hydraulic brake service.
Do I need to book a slot?
We recommend it. You can book by phone, Viber, WhatsApp or through the booking form. Booking matters most just before the start of the spring season, when the workshop is at its busiest.
